The Ferrari 246 exhaust was recorded* during the British Grand Prix in July 1958, when Peter Collins won in one of these cars and Mike Hawthorn was 2nd in a sister car. In a season where Vanwalls driven by Stirling Moss and Tony Brooks won more races and the newly-inaugurated Constructors’ Championship, this was a surprise. Alas! This was to be Collins’ last win. He died two weeks later after crashing his 246 when in hot pursuit of Brooks’ Vanwall leading the German Grand Prix on the Nurburgring.
